PAX era

If Apple made vape pens, this is probably what they’d be like.

The Pax Era is a lightweight, portable vape pen designed by San Francisco-based startup Pax Labs that retails for just $59.99. This device was designed to bring simplicity to the modern day marijuana enthusiast. With it’s sleek look and ease of use the Pax Era feels quite impressive amongst other options on the market. It performs consistently well throughout the life of a pod which makes it you feel like you’re getting the most out of each one.

The Pax Era comes with nothing more than the usb charging cable, presented in clean and attractive packaging suitable to Apple’s standards. Pods are sold separately at around $40-$60 a piece depending on the retailer. Its elegant matte aluminum finish helps to conceal the fact that it’s a vape pen. It measures to about three inches long meaning it fits easily in your pocket. 4 LED lights are located on top to communicate a number of different things such as battery life and temperature. Each light accounts for 25% of remaining battery power. The battery takes about 45 minutes to fully charge and will last you about 12-18 hours of fair use. There are no buttons on the device so taking a hit is just as easy as inhaling through the mouthpiece.

The easiest to change settings on the device is through the app on your smartphone. The Pax Vapor app allows you to adjust the colors and the brightness on the LED lights as well as set the temperature for your vapor. There is also a “games” feature that I don’t ever see anyone using except as a gimmick. I could easily see the ability to add two buttons for temperature control on the device itself, and while the option to change colors is cool, I don’t see why it’s necessary. It just seems like it’s there just to be able to say that it’s there.

So long are the days of ashtrays.

It’s nice not having to get your hands dirty to enjoy a good toke, and now it’s never been cleaner. Similar to a Keurig, the Pax utilizes a super simple disposable pod system. Just pop in a new pod and pop out the old one when it’s empty. No sticky oils or difficult to screw-on cartridges. Each pod contains a half of a gram of concentrate, and delivers around 300-500 puffs depending on how high you have the temperature set to. Pax has teamed up with Denver’s own The Lab to bring customers a bit of variety to their selection of pods, choosing between Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid strains.

The Mass Effect series has a special place in the heart of gamers. Love or hate Mass Effect 3’s ending (most people hate it), it left a lot of questions unanswered.
